These mysterious droplets, known as biomolecular condensates, solidify when they carry a high proportion of the protein alpha-synuclein, the scientists reported. Clumps of alpha-synuclein are commonly found in the brain cells of people with Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative brain disorder.
