IKEA has a team of product namers who use a database of Swedish words to pick names for the merchandise. Bookcases are named for occupations, desks and chairs have men’s names, fabric and curtains have women’s names, and kid’s items are named after mammals and birds, while bed sheets, comforters and pillowcases are named after flowers, plants, and precious stones.
